$50 come & gone

December 31st, 2006 at 12:56 am

I spent $50 Christmas money on a tank of biodiesel today. Another goal of mine is to find where to buy that stuff cheaper! When you go to the actual station it's more than gas. I've heard you can make it for almost free-or buy it from private parties for around 1.00 per gallon.......I am going to track my spending on the vehicle then see if I can't muster up more energy to bike ride or roller skate at work.....heck both are free with benefits.

From what I've heard, a decent set of equipment to make it yourself costs around $200 and then you have to find places to give you their old oil. It can be as cheap as $0.70 a gallon. Another option is to find a local co-op, basically like what you said about private parties. I can't wait to get my next vehicle, it's going to be biodiesel friendly if I can swing it.

I have a book here at home called "From the Fryer to the Fuel Tank: The Complete Guide to Using Vegetable Oil as an Alternative Fuel." I bought mine at an energy seminar, but I also found it at amazon. It tells you how to make biodiesel from common chemicals you may have at home. You can use oil that you buy at the store or get oil free from some place like McDonald's. I would also like to get diesel car or truck, so I can make and use this stuff. Hope this helps.
